In this stage, the contenders compete at the level of towns and cities.
The preliminary round will run for a month, until July 30, and top winners in different categories will make it to the provincial stage.
Registration for the Quranic event had started in late May and concluded on June 18.
This year’s competition is held in commemoration of the “Martyrs of Service”, namely those killed in a May 19 helicopter crash in northwest Iran, including President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
It is organized in separate sections for men and women in various categories, including Quran memorization, Quran recitation, prayer recitation, Nahj al-Balagha, Sahifeh Sajjadiyeh and Quran translation.
The Islamic Republic of Iran’s National Quran Competition is annually held by the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization with the participation of top Quran activists from across the country.
